Just wanted to add something to this.
Have been to the vets this morning with Milo for his bloods/liver check etc and the vet looked at his leg, the problem is his achilles tendon so he's on 4 weeks box rest :-(( I took some info on a couple of supplements to ask the vets advise - one of which was Holland & Barretts Glucosamine tablets for dogs and I will now not be touching them - the vet has said not to touch anything with Glucosamine SULPHATE in as its really bad for dogs and their bodies cant tolerate it, you need to be looking for products with Glucosamine HCL in it. Apart from which its not a joint problem with Milo now so these products wont benefit him but the information was very worthwhile.
A home is not a home ..... without a dog

At 5 years old, my girlie was diagnosed with OCD and DJD in her hocks. We were referred to an RCVS & European Specialist ortho surgeon for CT scans to see if the OCD was operable but it wasn't and hers is not bad enough to need hock replacement. We manage it through modified exercise and supplements at the moment.

The specialist told me to put her on Glucosamine HCI, chondroitin sulphate and omega 3 (as high a EPA and DHA as we could find). He said the glucosamine hydrochloride is absorbed better by dogs than sulphate. He started her on a high dose but then dropped it down after a month. The tablet she takes (just added into her food bowl at dinner time) is seraquin (I find Animed Direct the cheapest). She also has 1000mg of omega 3 daily. It has to be omega 3 only as some of the other omega oils are pro-inflammatory whereas omega 3 is anti-inflammatory. So far she's been on it for almost 2 years and seems to be doing fine on it. Will probably get bloods & urine done at her annual check later this year as another vet told me it was good to keep an eye on their sugar levels.
