Japanese Knotweed

Has anyone selling a house had problems with this? A family member of mine has had her house sale fall through as the banks surveyor identified knotweed growing on communal land at the rear of her property. We understand it is hard to rid the soil of this weed and can cost a lot of money.
Does anyone know any local reputable companies who can get rid of this weed in the Midlands or can anyone offer any advice on this? As it stands no banks will offer a mortgage to any potential buyers!

If the land does not solely belong to your family member, it would not be down to her to foot the bill for removing the JK. Who owns/maintains the communal land?0 -
Thanks all, had a look through these threads but nothing specific for the midlands re reputable companies. The land is owned by all the local residents, around 18 in all.0

I suggest that you look at an information paper provided by the Royal institute of Chartered Surveyors. Type RICS Knotweed into google.
The RICS is working with lenders to over come this problem to provide real solutions to deal with knotweed.
You will need an invasive weed specialist and a reputable firm can be found by contacting the Property Care Association property-care.org who again have been working with the RICS to ensure that there are accredited companies out there
I work for a firm who do just this; provide robust invasive weed solutions, their link is japanese-knotweed.org
Hope this is helpful and that this link will not be removed because I'm helping myslef help someone!!!
PS: don't believe all what the paper say the daily mail link makes the whole issue worse that it really is.0 -

If I were looking to buy, I can't imagine any circumstance under which finding JKW would not be a dealbreaker for me. It's nothing but trouble and expense.PS: don't believe all what the paper say the daily mail link makes the whole issue worse that it really is.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
