Just purchased a house and the cooker was included. When we came to use it it doesn't work. Does anyone know where we stand?

Unfortunately "Buyer beware" applies. It would have been nice if the sellers had told you but they were under no obligation to do so I'm afraid.0

It happened to us with the boiler..just got a new one and put it down to wear and tear...no use frettingIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
that depends on whether or not it was intergrated.0
-
Irrespective of whether it was integrated, it's buyer beware.
There might be a couple of very limited circumstances where there is misrepresentation but proving it will be impossible.0 -
Was it described as 'working'? If so, it should work.
At the point of Exchange of Contracts, was it working? If so at Completion it should also work.
Otherwise, no.0 -

Did you pay extra to have the cooker included? If not then there is no issue.0 -
Is it the rings, oven or both? Is it electric or gas.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Did you pay a gas or electrical engineer to check the appliance was in working order as advised by valuers & solicitors before completion? The onus is on the buyer to satisfy themselves that any appliances in the property are in working order before completion. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Our vendors made a huge fuss of how they were leaving the dishwasher because it fitted perfectly and they wouldn't dream of taking it with them.
Turned out it didn't work. The built in fridge was also broken.
Unfortunately, we just had to chalk these up to experience, as I understand it you're supposed to check they're working before you move in. Quite how you're meant to do this without moving in for a test run, I don't know...
I believe you don't really have any comeback as you can't prove it wasn't working when they left. That's really bad though - I mean, we could quite happily live without a dishwasher, but everyone needs a cooker!0 -
Is it a new build?0
