Setting up Word 2010

New computer (which I've eventually managed to get into!), and on opening Microsoft Word for the first time, after entering the Product Key, it asked me if I wanted to set it up as:
Office Open XML format
or
Open Document format
It didn't give me the option of bypassing it, so I chose "Office Open XML format", as the description seemed to be more comprehensive than "Open Document format". Have I chosen the correct format, and why did it ask this at all, I was expecting it to just be a general "word document". Sorry if this is a lame question, but just don't understand.

It asked this because there is a thing called the Open Document Foundation which is trying to get an open file format so any program can open files made by another companies equivalent. As everyone supports MS Office, its no longer an issue.0

Did I select the correct one though (Office Open XML format), out of the two mentioned above?0 -
