very few are exempt from having to make cut backs to pay bills. So saying those of a certain age are doing it is really stating the obvious and missing the point that age has didly squat to do with where as income levels have,
Many have seen wage freezes, reduction or effected by job loss whilst costs of everything go up, and as petrol and other utility costs increase as does everyelse .............then of course being female I am facing a likley hike in car insurance costs because of e u rulings .....................and do not even get me started on the costs on bailing out countries that issues greater than ours with tax collection.
Wouldn't be cheaper to simply ask supermarkets about this as they have info from their loyality schemes in some instance rather than splashing the cash for a survey or however they came to this conclusion of the obvious.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
"Many above-average income earners have been forced to switch to buying value or own-label brands to make ends meet ..."
I'm not sure this is the full story. Many above-average income earners are above-average income earners for a very good reason - they've got the intelligence and the commonsense to realise that they're getting far better value from own-label than they are from the brands.
And many of them shop at Aldi and Lidl because those stores provide (in most but admittedly not all cases) much the same quality as the leading brands for around 30% less. You can't buy everything there, but they do provide all the basics, leaving you with more than enough saved to get the 'nice' things from Waitrose.
Tesco? No thanks! Not any more - no need for it.0 -
A year ago my local aldi never had a full car park, and my car didn't look out of place (bangers R us). Now I have to squeeze my car in between enormous shiny 4x4s, bmw's and other large black shiny and intimidating vehicles.
Their polished and coiffured owners can be seen trotting out of the shop with cardboard boxes full of something they got cheaper in aldi than in their usual supermarket - usually meat, vegetables and wine.
I wonder how long it will be before this pushes aldi's prices up.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Lidl's prices are up already and my local one has ditched the giant cans of turkey ravioli and 9p baked beans, in favour of chilled Chablis.0

On saturday I noticed my local Lidl was installing an instore bakery, not quite sure how the staffing levels will allow use unless more staff are employed and then knock on price rises.0

aldi has had more than its fair share of rich people for decades, i remember that back when i was at high school aldi came to our town (early to mid 90s) and we thought it was cheap and naff
it was in a bit of a grotty end of town near where my sister lived at the time, we went up one day to give it a go and were pleasantly surprised, then one guy at school said his uncle went and he was a doctor and he knew lots of other rich people that went too.
rich vs poor people at aldi varies by location, the city centre one round here attracts all sorts but the one near the motorway has more rich customers, they avoid tesco and combine aldi and m and s to be able to afford their mercs, bmws and 4x4sWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0
