Word of advice for all looking into text work on the sexual side of things.. Dont bother!!

Done it for over 10 yrs now, pay is miserable compared to what it was, its 70% quieter than when it started and you can often sit earning £1-2 an hour ! Trust me its totally monotonous and NOT as easy as people think either

£1 to £2 an hour? Blimey you must be working at a high paying company, it's got that bad that I left a while ago, I would have loved to be hitting the dizzy heights of a quid an hour.

He might not earn enough to pay tax!! Also, most chatlines offer a variety of services (a menu) and will have an option of gay chat. Its a niche market, but yes I think he could get work. Some normal womens magazines have ads in the classified bits, I know Chat magazine used to, maybe still does.

Psychic/Tarot chatlines pay more apparently. Sex chatlines mostly pay £10 an hour BUT you prob wouldnt keep them on for an hour, and might have a slow day with only one call.....

Jobs can be found advertised at job centre+ or by internet searching.

Adult TV channel work pays best if you are young and brave enough.
Cam work can pay very well.

Text is hard work for very little reward.

A land line is usually essential.

Thinking you can take calls while walking round the supermarket or anywhere else in public is ridiculous, don't even think about it.

Most people start with one of the companies that take on novices. Dozens sign up but very few survive the first few weeks. It will help to read as much as you can and think it through carefully, do your homework and have a strategy worked out from the start (which market you are targeting, i.e. fetish, BDSM and so on).

Starter pay is usually as Romany star mentions these days but only for the time you are actually on calls, you don't get paid for waiting for the phone to ring. It is possible to get long calls (an hour plus) regularly but in general, earnings can be very unpredictable.

It is like any other form of self employment, you have to work hard to build up a clientele who will call you regularly. Most of the best paid women treat it as a full time job. It usually takes at least a year to get properly established.

The earnings mentioned in the TV programme are very unrealistic. You get to earn more if you are fully self employed, pay for and run your own line and are willing to spend a lot of time and effort getting your publicity out there. BUT, sex chat lines have to be registered and are monitored buy a number of regulatory organisations who can and do impose heavy fines if you break the rules, so be warned. Take out insurance if you plan to go that route.

Forget the stuff about doing this kind of work while you are doing your ironing or whatever, take that approach and you won't last 5 minutes. It is a very competitive way of earning a living these days and callers can usually tell straight away if they don't have your undivided attention.

One final bit of advice, always treat your callers with respect. The vast majority of callers are decent people with their own particular reasons for choosing to call the lines. That is their business, no-one else's. Phone chat line operators do not break up marriages, husbands and wives do that all by themselves.

Chat-jobs.com are hiring but the pay wont be brilliant and you have to speak on the phone not just type on a pc. But its money! Thanks Racy red, you know your stuff!

With all respect JParry, you obviously know nothing about the job and what it involves. The job is about fantasy. Most people who class it as cheating have very little idea of what it is or why people call. There are many women working as PSO's with the blessing of their partners, who understand what the job actually is.

I personally find PSO work a lot less sleazy than some of the "respectable" office jobs I have had where a slimy boss abuses his authority and gets his kicks by making the women in the office feel really uncomfortable. Now if I don't like the way a call is going I politely end it and move on. I couldn't do that in the office.

Romany_star, starting pay is usually low but once you become established it gets a lot better. Good PSO's are quite well rewarded but expect to have to work hard at it. There is a lot to learn. And yes, I have some years of experience with this type of work now.

i have worked on various Cam sites to earn extra cash and to be honest its really not that bad, its just finding the right times to go online or be available on the phones.. i am currently signed up with a cam and phone site called chatrecruit and its fantastic! The more time i spend on here the more i can earn! and there are no set up fee's so it is really worth trying it out
