I posted about this in the Consuemr Rights forum - this is what I posted:
I thought i would post this up in the hope that it gets more coverage (and maybe publicised on the MSE front page).
It is to do with Scottish and Southern Energy PLC being prosecuted for trying to mislead consumers. They were prosecuted and were appealing - which they lost this week.

What is most interesting (and not mentioned in the BBC article) is that they were appealing on the technicality that the overall holding PLC company was prosecuted and not the specific Ltd subsidiary that did the selling.
So if they had of gotten off it wouldn't have been because they hadn't been misleaidng people but because of a technicality.

I reported SSE myself.
A guy knocked on the door and asked if i had received the urgent letter. I asked what letter , and he said my meters were faulty - and they were over-charging me for my gas and electric. He said he would repair them - but in order to do the repair, i needed to sign a form to agree to it.
I pointed out i was with Npower, not SSE - and he said its ok, we are repairing everyones meters for free.
I told him i was not stupid and that he was trying to get me to switch suppliers. I said i would report him, as vulnerable people would fall for his bull. He covered up his name badge and pretended to talk on his phone, walking away. He said "sorry, i have to go - we will write to you".
They deserve all they get.0
