Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone knows what happens if I cancel an auction on ebay.. what charges will I still have to pay and what charges won't I have to pay?!?!
Selling something at the moment starting £29.99 and there are 18 watchers but no bids with 1d 6h to go.
Someone has offered to buy for £60 cash and will collect saving ebay and paypal fees and so i'm not sure what to do...

Hi
You can close the auction, or add a £60 BIN to it. If you close it, and sell off ebay, you'll save FVFs, but whatever happens you won't get your listing fees back. Personally, I love cash buyers. As you say, avoiding those fees is luuurvly. Ebay get enough dosh from me as it is. I often offer buyers the chance to buy more of an item, and a lot take up that offer.

Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
Should OF, would OF. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.0 -
Who has offered to buy for £60 outside ebay?
A friend or someone you know and trust or an anonymous ebay who has contacted you via your listing?
If a friend, than only you can decide whether to take his money or let the auction run its course. Is it too late to add a reserve price of say £70? If you can, then you can let the auction run and either get £70 or more, less ebay FVF and Paypal fee etc, or if it does not reach the reserve you can legitimately sell to your pal.
If the latter, be very careful. He/she could be genuine, could be trying to get it for less than he thinks it will reach in the auction or could be a scammer.0 -
Adding a reserve would be stupid - you will have to pay eBay more money to do this.
You can still edit the auction as long as no one has bid on it and there is more than 12 hours left. Just increase the starting price to a higher value e.g. £70 and see if it sells for more. Can't be any halm in trying - you have always got your back up £60 offer.0 -
Cancelled the auction in the end and sold it to the person who messaged me...
The bloke took the snowboard and some boots that I had as well so saved me a bundle in fees and all the hassle of posting etc. He was well happy with the goods and I am happy to get the amount I finally got so all worked out well...
And to top it all off, it was listed on Tuesday, so although I still have to pay the listing fee, it was half what it would have been normally!

Don't blame you. I am happy to sell off eBay - as long as you cover yourself then it is fine. I had a cot listed I never managed to sell and one cheap day listed it by mistake and the woman mailed me asking about it - thought it odd but found the listing told her I wanted £80 for ti and she came and got it the next day and paid me cash!! Very nice!! As you say, why give the money to Paypal and Ebay if you do not have to. Sure not everyone is honest and they do not always buy (yes I have had these as well) but it is the same with the website, people buy something and the money never arrives - just one of those things, you have the relist option to tr and sell again and then get your fees back if the worst comes to the worst.0

The win-win situation on this would have been to Revise the listing and up the selling price to something unreasonable such as £150.
The item would not sell, but you could then relist it at a later date and completely re-edit the auction - cateogory, description, title etc to whatever you want.
If the listing sells second time around you will have your Insertion fee refunded under the free relist credit policy.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
