Gumtree- help what do I do?

I sold my laptop on gumtree, Some guy bought it for £70 for his daughter, picked it up yesterday and phoned me last night saying he was really happy but now he's just off the phone as the disc drive isn't working! It was working last night but since his daughter updated it it's stopped working staying the driver is corrupt, what do I do???!

Don't see why you need to do anything (assuming he's paid by cash). As far as I can see you sold a working laptop which they were happy with, and now his daughter has made the mistake of updating it incorrectly and breaking it.

If he's paid by paypal you may have more of a problem.

Thanks starrybee I feel better now, was feeling like I might have to offer him a refund even though it was working and I really needed the money. He was doing the guilt trip that the laptop is for his disabled daughter etc and was feeling bad. But no will stick to my guns. Thanks

At most, I would provide advice on how to restore the laptop, if it has any built in recovery partition or CD/DVD software with it.

If they return the laptop to you, how are you going to sell it on? To avoid them turning up on your door step, i would try to advise, but at arms length.

Another thing which may fix it is to try and do a 'system restore' to a few days earlier, this will removed any new downloads and updates.
