Mushrooms in my house!

Hi

When we moved into our house in December and there was a horrible smell. After a couple of weeks of fixing minor rising damp problems, I found that the kitchen sink waste pipe had come loose behind the kitchen cupboards and the sink waste was draining straight onto the floor....pulling the skirting board off the kitchen units, I uncovered about an inch of thick sludge (not to mention another world of wildlife!).

This was the first week of January - I cleared up the sludge, fitted a new waste pipe and put a fan heater on the area for a day to help dry it out. Over the next 2 months everything appeared to dry up and I hadnt thought much more of it until last week when I saw a mushroom growing in the garden from under the kitchen wall...it was an odd place to be growing because the wall meets patio and there was no obvious drainage problems. I then went back under the sink and there were mushrooms growing out from the floor, where the leak had been. There were also some mini-slugs sloping around!

Can anyone suggest
a) what can I put under there to kill the mushrooms off?
b) is there anything I can put in there to absorb the rest of the moisture without pulling the whole kitchen out?

Thanks!

You may need a dehumidifer to dry things out completely.

Summer is coming. Give everything a good bleach or Jeyes Fluid and make sure you have good ventilation and it will dry. Eventually :)

What did the mushrooms look like? My guess is they were cups such as Peziza cerea or P. domiciliana. They thrive on damp. Cut off the damp and they go. They are telling you that you have a damp problem.
