Technika TV - Tesco Offer :-(

Hello everyone,
My technika TV has broken down and its only about two years old. It was bought for almost £200. I telephoned tesco customer services who sent me an over 12 month form to fill in.
They have written back to me and said the TV has no intrinsic value for them to offer me a refund and have given me a £20 money card!!
Its this right? Fair? How long is a TV supposed to last?? Surely even three years or four is too short for the life of a television, can products be so poor that they have to be replaced every two/three years??
And why can't they repair it? I'm not after the money I just need a TV, £20 will not get me anywhere in buying a new one
Can anyone offer me any advice on this issue?
Thank you

a £200 tv two years ago would have a very very low value now I suppose0

What size and type of TV was it?
a 19" LCD bought at £200 two years ago would be very different to a 50" LED bought for £200 two years ago in determining the quality of the goods to start with. I would expect the 19" to still be working but probably not the 50" considering it was £1000 cheaper than equivalent TVs.
Personally £200 for anything under a 32" I would expect to last longer but anything over and I would just think it was that cheap for a reason and wasn't meant to last.
Also you say it has broken down but how exactly? Is the picture or sound distorted or one of them not working at all? Does the TV even turn on?
How often was it used? Just occasionally in a spare bedroom or the main TV for the home that is on 10+ hours a day?0 -
Hello fosterdog, The TV is a 19" LCD with a DVD player. It isn't used much mostly in the evenings to watch two/three hours of TV before going to sleep.
When the Tv is turned on, the screen just remains blank and there is a weird noise that is present.
What is considered a reasonable length of time for a tv to last?0 -
Have you pressed "SOURCE"? If it says "DVD" then you will have a weird noise. Someone could have pressed the "SOURCE" button on your remote by accident, easy to do. If it has then you'll not get a digital picture. If your signal comes in by SCART then see the "SOURCE" button is ON that. If not then try other "inputs".0

Unless you want to pay someone for an endependant report to find out if it has an inherant fault, which will be refunded if it is found to be so, but if not, you are stuffed.
Think about it, if you paid £200 for it, it has cost you about £4 a week,
Personally, I would just take the £20 and vote with your feet.
I have 2 Technika TVs which Ive had for 7/8 years without a problem.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Thank you, Hadrian. The TV light comes on but no matter what buttons you press, it just won't come onUnless you want to pay someone for an endependant report to find out if it has an inherant fault, which will be refunded if it is found to be so, but if not, you are stuffed.

Exactly, you don't expect any tv to break down two/three/four years into use. Some of the old CRTs used to last decades!0 -

But they probably cost more than £200 new for a 19", and didn't come with built in DVD players0 -
Technika TVs are cheap because.....they're cheap. And a tv with a DVD player built in basically means it's a timebomb waiting to fail. 2 years for something like that isn't bad. Buy a panasonic C3 and a separate DVD player and you'll have quality AND reliability.0
