Disability Living Allowance. My Appeal.

Hi, can anyone advise me please? Until August 2011, I received higher rate DLA for my 15 year old son, however, they reduced this to Middle Rate until it needs renewing again in August 2012. I am appealing against this, but having spoke to the Appeals Office today, have been told it will take months!! In the meantime, my money has gone down, and, to make matters worse, it looks my my renewal in August will happen before the current claim dispute is even sorted! Arrgggghhhh!!! Any advice anyone has regarding this matter would be great, or maybe someone else is in the same position as me? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Jacqui

Why did they reduce it before your son was due a renewal. I take it he was Higher Rate Care that has been reduced to Middle Rate?
  • Harry 7075: I renewed his claim last August 2011. He was then reduced from Higher to Middle Rate until August 2014. I disputed this in a letter to them, stating that, due to the fact he needs 'more care than a child without his condition and periods throughout the day and night'. They wrote back saying they had changed their decision: keeping him at middle rate but REDUCING the claim period until August 2012!!!
  • Bullbar: thanks!! That sounds like even more 'good' news! Not!! My son is 16 in August, and am finding this whole process a nightmare - have enough to deal with as his carer without the added stress and confusion of this. And what in heaven's name is PIP?? Must admit I have never heard of it!
