BlackRock Gold & General

  • I hold both Smith and Williamson global gold and resources and Blackrock gold and general. The blackrock fund has fared relatively better so far (only had them for a few months). I am not bothered as I'm in it for the long term but will probably be adding more (seems a good opportunity). I think it depends on what sort of time you're investing for. If you don't mind investment trusts, Baker Steel Resources trust has been doing very well recently (has a very high TER though).

could make more in indonesia or bio technology for example.

I hope alot of things are more productive then gold. But its more risky I think, Indonesia is a complicated place. I only own the asia index as I dont know or read about their political situation

Gold has growth only as use by central banks in currency issuing. That would be increasing if foreign currency is growing stronger vs the dollar. I dont mean in exchange rates exactly but in use and (required) reliability for trade use

USA politics and the dollar is much easier to judge

As gold is as at a low in the fund I hold also but the metal itself is not weak [It has retraced 60% of gains since last July but not even begun to lose the gains prior to that in 2011,] - I think I will add to it as well as the other more normal business fund I was going to take up.

I think of it like a can grasped in a vice, progression is not linear but if we understand the forces underway we can predict which is most likely the direction and conclusion to choices and policies in action in currency and commodities globally

There is a big difference between holding the physical metal and holding the equities of miners. I have a very small holding in the Smith and Williamson fund I purchased recently, however the weighting is small because the fund price is in decline, so I may add a bit more later on.

hmm. Might be time to move in.

I sold out of this one back in July last year (at a price of 1639p for the accumulation units according to my contract note) and I'm not really tempted to get back in despite the 10%+ drop.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.
