Money not there Transfer company saying I'm liable

Hi I'd just like some advice from anyone who has been in a similar position.
I requested a balance transfer from Virgin and after a week and it hadn't appeared in my account I phoned and was told that it had gone in but that two of the numbers had been transposed and the money was in someone elses account.
I was referred to the missing payments department who have been less than helpful and this morning I received a letter saying that the money had been successfully transfered and that if there was an issue I had to take it up with my bank. It also went on to say that I would be expected to start making payments this month.
I have never received this money and the first lady I spoke to clearly said that they had mis-typed the account number. Virgin are now denying that this conversation ever took place (I'm hoping that I have a record of the call on my phone bill).
What do I do from here. I'm certainly not in the position that I can just give a stranger £2000!!!
HELP!

It's not clear whether the Virgin CC account is the one that the money should have been sent to or where it came from.
You need to talk to the company to whom you gave the original instruction. The company receiving the money can't do anything about an instruction that they correctly followed.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
