Is it worth putting £20 PCM into a savings account to accrue to pay for any unexpected treatment instead?

    No it is not...

One of my cats had around 5k worth of surgery before he was even a year old. If I was putting £20 per month away instead of having the insurance - I would have had less than 240 in the "pot"

The condition was called luxating patella, he needed an op on both back legs, xray, meads etc etc.

BTW - my 6 cats and a dog are all insured with Argos Platinum.
£65 excess, no percentage of the bill to pay, £7000 available and renevable each year (not per condition).

are tesco any good with pet insurance
  • I saw Tes*co did an accident / injury only policy that may be of interest to some once their pet reaches the time when aggressive treatment may not be the best course of action but for "normal" cover ...... I'd be worried they would pull out / increase premiums hugely after the first year etc

Another thing to consider - ask you vets who they will take direct claims from. Although many insurers say they will pay the vets direct - there are actually very few who vets are happy to let do so.... It's a fairly big risk for them (what if the claim is refused?) and they often have to wait ages to get paid
