Question on Passports

I am currently 21, and my passport expired in March 2006. It was a children's one (as my mother got it 3 weeks before my 16th bday) so was a 5 year validity.
I was wondering, and the passport site confuses me, do I have to apply for a first passport again, or just renew my 5 year one?
Oh, if this helps, I don't actually know where the expired one is...

Try phoning up the number on the application form and explain you have lost your last passport. I have found them always most helpful.0

It's a renewal but it's just one form at the moment anyway.
Now you just have to make sure you get your form AND especially your photos right - currently around 20% of photos are rejected because they fail to meet the guidelines and the form comes with a helpful guide on this.0
