Anyone used Severn Trent for gas and electric?

Was looking at our water provider's website and it said they could save us £100 on our gas and electric so rang up and got a quote and they've reduced our monthly DD from £65.50 to £58 and have switched over the phone (Have to wait for the confirmation pack to come through..) as got a bit swept up in the whole thing without looking into it first!
We were very happy with scottish power and have never found anyone cheaper which is why I was swept into switching... but have I done the right thing? Does anyone have an experience of them and are they any good? They don't advertise their gas and electric anywhere except on their water website as this apparently keeps costs down...

  • Yes my wife changed us over after being quoted 22.00 per month for gas and 20.00 for electricity by their telesales team who had asked her a series of questions such as house size etc. When she asked how they could do it so cheaply she was told that they had low overheads due to having a large existing customer base and not having to advertise etc. Our first quarters bill came and we owed 366.00 due to underpayment, which took our gas direct debit from 22.00 to 119.00 so beware!! We contacted energy watch who advised us to do an erroneous transfer - which we did!

These sales teams are interested in one thing - their commission!
Their bosses are interested in one thing - getting a new account!

It you pushed matters they would probably set your DD at £5 a month.

All that matters(on costs) is the price per kWh they charge, and to a lesser extent discounts for Direct Debit, dual fuel etc.
