Need some help please

Not sure what category it goes under but booked flights by phone but as 'flight booking company' was busy they never took immediate payments and said they will do so later - however payment was rejected as credit card given would have maxed out by £5/£10 over agreed limit.

contacted 'flight booking company' and they said payment was declined and asked for full payment of declined flights and new flights that i purchased which were £1000 more expensive.

Can they do this - take two lots of payment?

What can be done if anything?

It has cost me nearly £4000+

  • Are they claiming the cost of the flights has now risen, so the new cost is 1000 pounds more? I'm guessing your original agreement ended when the payment was declined.

If you didn't have sufficent credit available on the card then obviously it would be declined. So by the sounds of it they didn't actually take the payment the first time.

So did you pay them the full payment for the first set of flights (that had previously been declined)? If so why did you need to book new flights?

If you didn't pay for the first set of flights and the booking was cancelled, then you have presumably only paid for the new flights at whatever that cost was?

The 'flight booking company' will have no idea of the reason for the decline and the information that the charge would have put you £5-£10 over your credit limit cannot have come from them.

If there were insuficient funds available within you credit limit then obviously the charge would have been declined. Any delay by the 'flight booking company' does not change the situation unless you spent on the card during this period thereby putting up the balance and reducing the available credit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sufficient credit availble for your purchase.

The second paragraph of your OP require clarification as makes no sense.

My payment for the flights was first declined and as the price increased to rebook they charged me for the declined flights and also the new flights so I paid for flights twice.

The flight company were busy so took credit card details at time of call and said they would process it later. When they processed it my card was declined as tickets were costing £2700 and my limit was exceeded by £10 as I only had an available balance of £2690.
When I contacted them that evening they said flights were not booked as card declined and I had to rebook flights and overnight the price had increased to £3700 so I had to pay that including £2700 for the previous payment.

Why did you have to pay for the original flights though? I don't understand that bit, sorry.

If they booked seats for you at £2700 but your card was declined, then I would assume that they no longer hold those seats. If the price has gone up in the meantime, fair enough, you have to pay the going rate at the time of booking.

If, however, they are still holding the 'original' seats for you, then why have you got to pay twice? Something's not right here.

Why are they saying you need to pay for both sets of tickets?

Either they booked the first set and they're still there and have to be paid for or they didnt book them because the payment declined in which case you only need to pay for the new tickets.
