Can I have new customer deals?

Hi, car insurance time is here again and I've shopped round,
Aviva is coming in the best by a significant margin.
However they are offering me 15 weeks free for being a new customer, there is no option to remove this discount on their website, not that I particularly want to. But my current policy is with them

I am always nervous with insurance companies as I don't want them to have any wiggle room when a claim arises.

Thinking about it however although I am an existing customer of Aviva at the moment, if I take out a policy the next day or at any other time after my current policy expires would I not be a new customer? Or is this me interpreting the rules to suit myself?

What do you guys think?

Just tell them you've done a price comparison and on there its £xxx. I did that with Swiftcover 3 years in a row, twice with Chaucer and with Shielas Wheels for my house insurance.

I've just done something very similar with Shiela's Wheels.

Moneysupermarket was giving a quote with Shiela's Wheels substantailly less than my renewal notice. So much less that when I phoned to ask them to match the quote, the guy said it couldn't be done. He then went on to say, without any prompting from me, that the best way was to let my current policy lapse and start a new policy.

All handled over the phone with no issues.
  • The "15 weeks free" is not actually available only 10 weeks.
If you try to click on "Get a Quote", you will find that it is not working due to "technical issues".
Which means you will have to get your quote by phone instead in which case a 10 week discount is offered.
