Rumour has it the jet stream should be moving North this weekend so maybe summer will get going then.

At the risk of jinxing everything, I noticed today that the long term weather forecast for me (Cardiff) was starting to look a lot better. Mix of sun and rain, rather than just grey cloud, from Thursday through Saturday, then loads of suns Sunday through Wednesday. Four good days in a row, haven't seen 2 in a row for over a month.

By tomorrow the forecast will probably be row after row of grey clouds again, but just for today, it does look a little promising.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

I think you are confusing the MCS certificate with the FiT registration which your chosen FiT provider creates with OFGEM's database.

The former is what your MCS installer gives you (hopefully ASAP) and is a prerequisite for applying to a FiT provider, who in turn will register your installation on the OFGEM register and give you a FIT ID for your system.

Thanks for that; however my experience is that the MCS qualified installer creates the details of the certificate, he sends for your property, on an on-line database? A bit like "the deeds" of a house actually exist on the Land Registry electronic text and map system, NOT on the print-out your solicitor sends with his invoice.

I was very happy that B.Gas was using its electronic access to this register in place of my "one and only" let-us-get-it-lost-or-delayed in the postal system certificate required by n-Power, my current supplier of imported electricity.

This was the objection to the documentation that I emailed to N.Gas complete with proof of payment:

Many thanks for your feed in tariff application. Before we can complete the application process please provide the following document:

    • A copy of your final invoice for the installation. We can not accept an invoice that is in writing, please could you send us another copy.It must state weather or not the balance has been in full.

You can scan the document and attach it to a reply to this email, or alternatively the address to return this document to is............:

[Spelling errors and omissions, as provided by B.Gas :D]

Please Note: FiT payments can only be made from the commissioning date if completed applications are received within 5 working days of this date via post. The MCS Certificate number must be included on the application form. If you choose to return the application to us via email, the application needs to be completed and returned on the date the installation was commissioned, along with the MCS Certificate number. If you are unable to return the application on the commissioning date, a reading must be provided to us on the date your application is returned.

Any one get the feeling that each company makes up the rules as it goes along and/or changes the system, as it evolves with their suppliers of PV electricity?

I think you're right that the MCS certificate is generated from an online database, however this is probably owned by the MCS trade body. The FiT register is totally separate, and is owned by OFGEM. It's up to your FiT provider to get you registered on the OFGEM database and hence allocate you a FIT ID.

The Renewable Energy Foundation publish a database based on the OFGEM data which is updated quarterly. See here for a detailed explanation of terms used. You can search the database itself (last Updated 31/03/12). Our system was one of the many systems commissioned on 21st October 2011 in the South West.

However, my neighbour (the seller) has pointed out a clause in our property contracts stating I have to apply for written consent for any additions to the property, requiring planning permission or not, before works can commence - which I did not do

As written here, that doesn't seem to mean that you have to have written consent from him/her, just that you have to have applied for it ! Nor does it seem to say that you have to offer any proof of having asked - so if you've not already admitted forgetting to ask, you might want to suggest it's been lost in post :D

Your neighbour may have the right to take you to court and claim damages for your failure to seek consent. Hard to see how any court would grant very much in the way of damages if it's really true that you only had to ask but not necessarily wait for an answer or indeed how they could claim very much in the way of damages for something that would be considered a permitted developmnt by the planning authorities.
