As I am on "Economy 7" my chest freezer has been on a time switch for years.

Obviously no point in having it turned on for 3 or 4 hours before the half price electricity switches on, or for the few hours after the cheap Economy 7 turns off, before the roof panels start generating a serious surplus. .

I've read several times, but never looked any further, about freezers that have a sort of 'supercharge' feature, where they cool down even further at set times - presumably for intermittent supply (?), but this could work well with E7 or PV, depending on price and availability.

Hope I'm not making this up.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

    Another good month, 240.7kWh (120.35 O's), 18% above SAF PVGIS, 9.3% above August 2012.

    Best days: 1st (12.15kWh) and 31st (11.89kWh) - odd!
    Worst days: 16th (2.14kWh) and 24th (1.57kWh)

If September continues the trend I'm up for a record-breaking quarter.
2kWp Solar PV - 10*200W Kioto, SMA Sunny Boy 2000HF, SSE facing, some shading in winter, 37° pitch, installed Jun-2011, inverter replaced Sep-2017 AND Feb-2022.

404kwh for August, not bad considering I missed the first 6 days

PVGIS was 350ish (I think, haven't got figures to hand)

Just submitted meter reads to Scottish poor, electric bill £19.24 compared to last years August bill of £31.32 so well chuffed

    307kWh generated :j, 31% above target :)

  • August 2013 generation was 18.98% above PVGIS climate target.

2013 year-to-date generation is now 2.68% above PVGIS climate target.

    PV Output
  • Cider Country August generation was 402kWh (108.6 O's) and 6.6% above PVGIS-Classic estimate. Nothing too special but at least it wasn't under target. Off to Spain on Tuesday so no doubt it will be a stellar start to September.

September is quarterly reading date, but I last submitted early in June (12th) so it's gonna be a bumper payout: £589.52 so far and I could hang on until 30th September.

After the poor results for March, I am marginally ahead of 2012 sunshine- farming results. I wonder how the results of (say) a Barley Baron's results reflect the summer weather - Barley certainly won't grow at below Zero temperatures, but other things being equal the electricity yield is enhanced by falling temperatures.

When the numbers are duplicated, I was away from home and so not able to read the generation meter; so averaged the result over the missing readings.
For example I am told it rained all day in South Essex on Saturday 24th.

3.6 kWp system facing SE on 30 degree roof.
