*Maybe the monthly figure will be a bit lower in the winter, as you'll need a tad to cover PV shortfalls, but still!
Very jealous. Thanks Mart, I hadn't done the maths, simply preferring to wait for Octopus to do it via their statement.I have to confess that the drive to generate and store as much energy as we can is simply born out of the desire to be as energy independent as possible, be it summer or winter. I'm not suggesting the current returns aren't very welcome, after all, there has been quite some investment to arrive here but rather that than being held to ransome via the burning of harmful fossil fuels be they from friendly or not so friendly nations. We've no desire to go off Grid as how would Ripple deliver our share of renewable wind generation without it.Anyway, a little bird tells tells me that it won't be long before you can start joining in the fun!Oh, todays generation 2.49 O's...... so a few more coppers to add.
I think I'd missed the importance of export to people's PV investment. Perhaps being on the FiT deemed* I simply hadn't realised how much can be earned at the moment.
Visited sister on the weekend, and their PV system is nearly 2yrs old now. BiL mentioned the export payment and i had no idea how much it was, thinking they were on about 5.5p/kWh, but it's 12p/kWh. For Mch/Apr/May they got nearly £300. They should get more for Jun-Aug, and another £300(ish) for the other 6 months. So around £900pa (at the moment).
I mention this as the install was ~£8.5k (scaffolding was already in place) for 10.3kWp. So export will cover cost in 10yrs**, and I worked out the cost of generation at around 6p/kWh (including opportunity cost of capital, and a replacement inverter at year12).
Sorry for thread digression, just admitting how out of touch I was regarding export value.
* I'm changing to Octopus export atm.
** Presumably export rates will drop, as Europe gets gas demand down, after Ukraine invasion, and if the UK expands PV rollout (eventually!!!!!!) lowering daytime export value. But you should be fine, by exporting during peak demand periods at higher rates?Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

I've got to ask, what's an "O"? Google is not your friend searching for a single letter.
I'm guessing some sort of normalised ratio between kWh generated (exported?) and something. Is the "something" the nominal power, for example 8.0kWh from 20 400Wp panels making one "O". Or does it account for orientation, location etc?0 -
