If the Inverter went wrong your previously calculated figures would also then be wrong and you would have to edit possibly 6 years of posts on this thread.

I'm afraid you haven't grasped a fundamental economic principle.

It would make absolutely no difference to this week's result if I found it necessary to spend another ten grand next month. Obviously results for next year would look worse but last year's figures remain valid for all time.
who wants to work that one out on a daily basis
But there's no need to work out an E-value every day. As demonstrated in my original posting it can be done daily but could equally be done monthly or even annually.

You got me, 1.97 O's yesterday.

Forecast for the next week is pretty good, especially tomorrow, so expect more rain and snow.

Today's forecast is pretty good from 10am onwards, but been generating 500W+ since 7am (700W now), so fingers crossed for a good one.

If I hit average for the next 5 days, will still close at 78%, a record for me. :(

    Mart.
It's quite a good forecast for us here in Bedfordshire (relative to the last week), but with the panels still mostly covered in snow there's little chance of getting many 'O's.

Loving the battle of the vowels. Could somebody please invent an 'I' value, so I can post results and do a rendition of 'old McDonald' at the same time? Who have we got with a prominent I?

"i" is generally used in Mathematics to denote imaginary numbers.

Perhaps one of our imaginary posters might care to suggest some appropriate ratio to monitor ? Perhaps the number of "poor" electricity consumers it takes to fund one of us "rich" SP owners ?

The "E" value is obtained by calculating your earnings over a period and the cost of keeping the SPs in place (in my case that's lost ISA interest, others might use HP payments or even lottery ticket purchases).

Yesterday was therefore a 5.5 E day and March to date has been 3.3 Es. My worst ever month (Jan this year) was 1.13 Es; May 2012 was 8.5Es

Always better to give electricity companies a 'real' reading than depend on their estimates ! When prices are rising you usually find they've 'accidentally' underestimated meter readings for changeover date and on the odd occasion when prices have fallen (there have been some) blow me if the forecast wasn't too high.

What happens if you do not have ISA's to calculate ?; all seems a bit 'hair brained' to me.....

If the inverter actually goes wrong then you'd need to recalculate but until it does it's reasonable to ignore the cost. Every chance that it will last at least ten years and then be replaced at considerably less cost than today's estimates. Reasonable chance it will last far longer than that.

And of course there's always the possibility that SPs themselves will be struck by lightning or have some falling object smash them.

I like the point about inflation-erosion of the ISA. Arguably I can claim my lost interest as zero and report "E" values of infinity.

Yea, the other day I heard that someone found an 'Ice Block' of frozen debris in their garden from a passing Plane (aero, not the chocolate type). smiley-laughing021.gif

Think I will stick to the accurate O's, thank you Eric, but
    2.4 O's for me today....:p:rotfl:

Reg. for FIT Nov 2011. "It's not what you generate; it's how you use it that matters". One very clean Vauxhall Diesel Sri, £30.00 Road Tax: B)

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

What happens if you do not have ISA's to calculate ?

If you have solar panels on the roof, you paid for them somehow.

If it came from savings then you use the interest you would have been earning on the savings.

If you took out a loan to pay for them, use the loan repayments.

If some benefactor bought them for you, work out what you'd have done with their money if they'd given it to you but you hadn't spent it on SPs

If the previous owner of your house installed them, work out how much extra you paid for the house because they were included.

If it was funded from a lottery win then use your average spend on buying tickets.

I think that covers most possibilities although if you stole them from a nearby house, then you're not entitled to claim FITs :D
