Should I cancel the installation as I will lose benefit of meter going backwards especially in the good summer months or am I am clutching at straws
The old meter going backwards should have been reported when the system was installed. It is possible that when the Electricity supplier or DNO find out you could end up with a very large estimated bill for the electricity you should have been charged for.

If you know about it and don't report it, then you are probably committing Fraud; I would report it. Before it comes back & bites you on the backside and costs you dearly....enough said...coffeegif

Technically, you have to inform your leccy supplier(s) if you have a meter that spins backward so that they can replace it with one that doesn't, since you are benefiting from 'net-metering' instead of export rate payments (or even both).

Edit - Oops, didn't realise there was another page, and others had already answered it. My bad.  :#
