A mixed day that tried to bring the sun out but failed.

I was removing another Squirrell nest from under one of my panels. This is the third time now. The little kits were about about the size of my thumb. Smallest we have ever seen them. Now 3 dead kits in a bucket. 7 in total from the 3 removals.

Now might be the time to spend a day sat by the rear bedroom window with an air rifle to take the parents out who like to sit on my fence and laugh at me. They are not afraid of BB Guns from 30 meters.

If that does not work I will call up a friend in the USAF who can get me an A10 Warthog with a GAU-8 :rotfl: Maybe a bit of Collateral Damage with that though!:rotfl:

I'm hoping for around £6-700 for my quarter, got 8 days left before readings go in. My current leccy tariff states i must have a "smart" meter fitted(my mistake when signing up(small print)) but i've managed to head the leccy company off for 6 months while i consider it...lol....my tariff finishes a couple of months later so i'll have had the benefit of a cheaper leccy tariff but without the "upgrade"
Just over a couple of O's in the bag today and over 63 O's for the month so far
My understanding is that you cannot (at the moment) be forced into having one fitted??? Especially if you submit meter readings on time every month...Tell em to 'do one'..or at least, refuse them entry into your Castle (House)..:p:pcoffee.gif

I don`t have a Smart Meter myself but, out of curiosity, why is the general consensus here that they are a bad thing?

I'm not sure there is a "general consensus." The first generation ones won't work if you switch suppliers and some people have had specific problems with them - I'm sure you can find examples all over the web. The other issue is the vast cost of rolling them out and the fact that everyone has to pay for it - a bit like the objections to historic subsidies for solar panels, etc. Personally I'd be perfectly happy to have one if it were available to me.

The last three days hurt, month end prediction was 110%, but by close of play yesterday had dropped to 105%, but the suns out now.

Mixed bag going forward, so around 100% looks likely.

Most of us already have better monitoring of generation and consumption than would be offered by a so-called 'smart' meter.

Anyone who already has a 'smart' meter will probably find that next time they swap suppliers it will become a dumb meter. That's not supposed to be a problem with 'second generation' meters but there aren't many of them in use yet.

But - and most damning of all - the major 'advantage' of smart meters is that your supplier can use them to remotely disconnect your supply without having to send an agent round. Afraid I don't see that as 'attractive' to me and resent having to pay for the programme to fit them to all properties.

British Gas confirmed that “remote disconnection” is possible but that smart meters grant no additional powers to disconnect than with standard meters. A spokesman for the energy giant said they would never disconnect a customer without an engineer visiting the property.
Robert Cheesewright, of Smart Energy GB, the body tasked with promoting the rollout, said: “People with smart meters are protected by exactly the same strict regulations that protect anyone with a traditional meter.”

    Hi all,

I thought it would be useful to jump in here.
As Kevin G has pointed out, all the protections that consumers currently enjoy against disconnection will remain in place. There are low numbers of disconnections across Britain and it is not expected that the number of disconnections will increase as a result of smart metering. Energy suppliers are only allowed within the terms of their license to cut off an energy supply in very specific circumstances, and these are set out on Ofgem's website. You’re still protected by strict regulations against your energy supplier switching off or disconnecting your gas or electricity supply.

The radiation myth has arisen because they use short bursts of radio waves to allow readings to be taken remotely from gas and electricity meters. Some people fear that the radiation they emit is a health risk, but PHE say they are safe. They exceed every EU and UK safety standard. Smart meters have a very small power output and they transmit radio waves infrequently. In fact, most of the time there's no transmission. Exposure to radio waves from smart meters is well within guideline levels, and is many times lower than the exposure from Wi-Fi and mobile phones.
