Did the installers consider that there may be a fault in one of the panels? I'd have expected them to have done this test before even considering replacing the inverter.

    Hi Dave

Site conditions & orientation aside there's effectively (in order of probability & test priority) ...

    Isolators
    Connectors
    Cables
    Inverter
    Panels

Apart from the inverter they should all be pretty easy to test in isolation so I don't really understand the logic behind changing the inverter again or anything else at random as opposed to performing some basic fault diagnostics.

I'd be surprised if MCS registered installers didn't have both the knowledge & specialised kit required to test individual panel performance under variable irradiation conditions as I was under the impression that performing this test and recording data was a MCS mandatory requirement for the installer prior to installation so that deterioration could be measured for potential claims against manufacturer performance guarantee ...

The main DC cables, connectors and isolators could easily be visual & resistance tested with basic test equipment so the issue as I see it is that they can change the inverter and reseat connectors as many times as they want, but until/unless they take a proper diagnostics approach the likelihood of solving the issue remains pretty low ...

Both you and Dave obviously know what you are talking about; as opposed to me. My view on this situation is:- chances of two inverters being faulty are very slim, everything else has been checked or changed, (apart from each individual panel) so unless the checks were not made correctly, I would bank on Dave's prognosis, a faulty panel; but at the end of the day, if the installer wants to put in yet another Inverter, then so be it, but I would ask for a top of the range one, and if that does not resolve the problem, have the panels checked; a win-win situation....;)

Thanks for the replies, I do find them very interesting. You may (or may not remember) the PV Isolation Fault only appears on damp mornings, which is why they originally blamed it on moisture ingress on the connectors between the panels.
If it's been dry through the night then the inverter wakes up as expected at the first sign of light, if it`s been raining - well it seems to require 200-400 watts of gen before it starts.
It`s not a massive issue but still not right. Over a year I`d imagine he isn't losing out on much at all.

For example during a poor day last week I generated a daily total of 0.37 Kwh`s on a very dull bleak day, which meant my system probably didn't have any major peaks and just scampered along at about 0.04 Kwh`s all day or so. That day he generated zero as there wasn't enough gen to kick his system into life.

    But pennies make pounds

    A nice 1.7 O`s here yesterday.

P.S. I`m pretty confident of the installers competency levels to be fair to them so I`d imagine they have performed the tests mentioned above.

    It's been a while....

    Name the song!

Moving on, the last week of October I needed 19kWh for target.

Just scraped it on the last day!
    Finished on 224/218 or 103% with the 31st hitting a mighty 6.3kWh!

Yesterday was a bad day, without checking details possibly the worst day this year?!

Today, at 8.10 this morning I'd nearly overtaken yesterday's total!

Forgotten how nice crisp, bright mornings can be!

    Screenshot_2016_11_02_08_29_37.png

Oh, hit the 10MWh total system generation on 24/10.
The total gen in the pic above is just what I've done since I had SolarEdge retrofitted.

    Morning all :j

Absolutely crazy 2nd day of November - 2.7 O's. After getting sha*ted in the latter part of October, this uptick is well received! :j
