  • So I bit the bullet last week and had a smart meter installed by EDF.

I did check with their Green Team who assured me that there are no plans yet for them to use the actual exported power information that is available from the smart meter. I know though that it will just be a matter of time before it will be used.

For me though the benefit of the monitor we are given showing 'real time ' consumption and the effect that that will hopefully have on Mrs Nobby and her somewhat casual attitude to saving energy will offset any loss in export payment.

Time will tell but she has already started paying attention to the display and questioning why the 'rev counter ' type section is going so high and changing from green to amber & red !

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

Am I the only one who seems to be constantly getting pestered with calls on "how to boost my solar returns by up to 30%"
I came back from Tenerife on Saturday morning and have had 2 cold calls already, both "guaranteeing" to boost my returns.
I'm tempted to have a "survey" undertaken just to waste their time and so I can tell them to **** off as I'm not interested

More to the point......where are they getting my details from?

Go on, get em round, I did. They suggested £2.5k on the phone to 'SolarEdge' my ESE system, so I thought I'd have a chat. After all, that would mean a new inverter, with a 12yr warranty, just as my two old ones became warrantyless. It would also mean a 5% uplift on the inverter efficiency, and hopefully a 5%+ uplift on generation, so it would have paid for itself, just on the higher FiT rate the ESE gets.

Of course the 2hrs or so, were mostly BS, with carp about the fire brigade not coming out to houses with string inverters soon, and explanations of how SE will balance out panel manufacturing differences (which it will) but explaining to me how some of my panels may be 20% to 30% below rating ..... more carp, since I'd already explained that my slightly shaded system was almost matching PVGIS.

Finally got the quote of £4.6k, which, if you think about it, is the cost of a new system, yet they'd be using 'my' panels, railing, cabling, isolators, TGM etc.

I learned quite a lot about their tricks (spin) so if you have an hour or two to spare .... perhaps!

I'm in the opposite camp. I was disappointed to find that they wouldn't use the export figure as I miss out on about 900kWh of export. I was then doubly unlucky as they notified me to say no plans to do my area yet ....... as I'm redecorating that room, and if the meter (edit: gas meter) is moved about 1inch (or better still flipped from one wall to another, where it sits in a corner) it would be very helpful.

    Oh well.

More to the point......where are they getting my details from?

I kept getting a company phone me up and they had been told on 3 occassions that I had panels and to remove my details. Phoned me again and same woman reading from the usual script. I said yes come and see me. Had to be called back by a manager to confirm she had been polite and arrange an appointment. Made it for 18:30 the next day as they were in my area. Got a call from them the next day at 15:00 saying that they had a cancelled appointment could they come round in 30 mins. Said no was busy. Guy phoned at 18:00 saying he would be here in 5 mins, wife said I was at work he would have to wait till 18:30

He turned up and I welcomed him at the door. Said I was not intrested as I had told the company 3 times that I had Solar Panels and as I was fed up I thought I would waste his time. He was not very happy as he had been sat around for the last 3 hours and he had a 70 odd mile drive home. Called me a few nice names.

Have found a way to stop cold calls now. If I get a call from an unknown number I answer the phone with the name of a Business. Stops them dead in the tracks. They have all said they will remove the number from their database.

Like it: I had the usual call today telling me I had a virus on the PC. Strung him along for a few minutes; then told him what I thought, ended the call by saying Warwickshire Cyber Crime; he apologised and hung up.. what a laugh...:rotfl::rotfl:

Exactly why I can't be a$$ed to do it. Just don't want to waste 2hrs of my time listening to BS

Good luck with that, better getting a CPR call blocker, one press of a button and they're gone forever(well until you remove the call blocker)
