Renewables: "talking 'bout my generation"

  • Dear All

Thanks to all who have indeed hypothesised about my generation curve. The simple fact is that today, after putting both of my two strings onto their own MPP tracker, my generation peaked at 3,443w and the curve looks properly curved (no flat top). The peak is about 800w higher than previous and I am totally sure this is 'the fix' i needed.

I'm also not 100% sure about the true reason behind the flat top curve from the previous setup but it does seem to have been limited to one of the parameters like a maximum current as a good educated guess.

So, for the record, my Growatt 3600MTL has MPP tracker A and B, each has two connections on the underside of the inverter. My setup previously had both strings connected into MPP tracker A and now i have put one string into each MPP tracker.

When i took the individual string voltages yesterday I had in fact removed the isolator covers and was checking the individual string voltages on the terminals of the isolators.

All sorted, quiet excited about the performance that I will now get and slightly dismayed that i've missed out on so many kwh's due to an installation issue. I'm also very glad I'm a bit of a geek and didn't just 'let it go'.

    3.58 O's today. Thanks again everyone. :T:T:T:j:j:j:beer:
    14 x 285w panels from "8.33" in 2 strings = 3.99kw Growatt 3600MTL 3.6kw Inverter with wifi dongle. Installed Dec 2015, Shrewsbury UK.

Feb target of 130KWh achieved! first time since install target has been achieved, as you can see what a great start I had in the PV solar world with Nov, Dec and Jan. I thought the PVGIS targets were a joke never to be achieved :)

I think the remaining days will make up for the Jan shortfall as well!

    Hi

Same here, bettered our worst (so far) February total (2015) today - a decent day tomorrow and we should cross a couple more years off the list and start to address the cumulative effects of the previous 3 poor months ...

    .... Well, as expected, there's another year's February total passed .... :)

My panels are further round to the east than yours and have shading, your Feb target looks a bit low?
    Mine's 154kWh.
    Maybe mine is too high?!

But target hit by 9 am today, still pulling 107w as of 16.00 today and hit the year high of 14.867kWh.

Carry on like this and might get a forty winks before St Davids Day!

No, in my 4 and a bit years experience, exceeding PVGIS is more common than failing to reach them. I can't of course begin to forecast what my results for a 30year average (as used by PVGIS) are likely to be :D

... and another February total passed ... just like London buses, you wait for ages and a number of targets are crossed off in no time whatsoever .... next bus due tomorrow if it's fine weather ...

As an aside, the GCH boiler hasn't been used to top up the DHW for just under 3 weeks so the solar thermal has been performing quite well .... MrsZ has commented that the shower was a little 'tepid' a couple of times, but just as Mr Ben often found .. "as if by magic, the [STRIKE]shopkeeper[/STRIKE] sun appeared" ... excellent timing so far!

amazing how much a few degrees orientation seem to make. My target is 200kWh. Maybe thats on the high side and why I'm late in cracking open the Lambrini :D

My target for Feb was 194kWh but I am bang on south facing.
Noticed that it almost doubles to around 350kWh for March!.
