I really hope you (and they) are right but not holding my breath.

10am Sunday : Sun shining, clear sky almost a kW being generated. Maybe ajbell's forecasters got it right for once ?

  • I haven't posted on here before, why are kWh called Os?

I have a 12 panel system with 8 panels facing south east and 4 panels south west. They generated 1.17 kWh today and have made over 1 the last four days so not as low as some on here despite not really seeing the sun.

    Hi

    Welcome aboard the nut house

Take a look at Oscargrouch's signature for the definition of O's.

He didnt ask for the definition he asked why.
I dont know but i would guess that it represents a way of directly comparing the output of different sized systems.

Welcome Mark, Long History, don't go there, but it is the best way of making a reasonable comparison between large and small systems. Check out the O's of the massive field panel systems and you may find that you do better than they do...coffee.gif
2.5 kWp PV system, SSW facing, 45 Deg Roof. ABB Inverter, Monitor: 'Wattson'.
Reg. for FIT Nov 2011. "It's not what you generate; it's how you use it that matters". One very clean Vauxhall Diesel Sri, £30.00 Road Tax: B)

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

But a kWh is a kWh, regardless of the size of system, so I just wondered why we call them Os on here. O for 'Output'?

It's a long story as to what an O is but It's not a kWh, an O is your daily generation divided by your system size.

An example would be 2kWh(daily production)/4kWp(usual system size) would give 0.5 O's
Or 20kWh/4kWp is 5 O's(or an/a Hawaii as we like to call them)

  • Our Os at pvoutput.org are called "Efficiency" and are mapped. Efficiency is shown on the graph y axis as kWh/kW.

However, the term 'efficiency' is also (and I suggest more justifiably) used to describe the amount generated as a percentage of total insolation. Having two different properties with the same name seems somewhat confusing !
