Renewables: "talking 'bout my generation"

Without doubt....You should use your Gen meter. It will be more accurate.
It's not necessarily true that Gen meter is 'more accurate' as the allowable tolerances on an approved meter are so generous that an unapproved one might well be more accurate.
What a load of old cobblers; why do you think the 'unapproved' are not approved; cos of reliability? Inverters are renowned for being inconsistent, hence the reason we have to have 'approved' Generation Meters installed with the system.....
....
I doubt there is a fault at all....:DI accept the Generation meter is what will dictate FIT readings, it's more why I queried it. Maybe I naively expected the 2 of them to run in parallel to each other. At the same time a 5% margin of error between 2 electronic, digital devices seems a little wide of the mark. 0.5% on each device resulting in a potential 1% of a difference would be believable.
It wasn't so much, I was looking for a 'better result', more a case of consistency and accuracy.
All I can do is monitor it and see if the margin increases, decreases or remains constant. If it digresses then there could be a fault.
As an example: currently, in the last 4 years I have generated:10,286.6 kW; my Aurora Inverter makes it ******* to be edited the morrow, as in the dark, it has switched orff....:rotfl::rotfl:.....

Meters are only 'approved' when the manufacturer has submitted a sample for official testing and approval - and there is indeed quite a wide tolerance allowed. An inverter's meter isn't usually installed in a tamper proof box so could never be approved.Oscargrouch wrote: »What a load of old cobblers; why do you think the 'unapproved' are not approved; cos of reliability? Some inverter results are indeed pretty unreliable; some are far better. My SMA inverter has consistently reported results 0.16% lower than the TGM. Assuming for the moment that my TGM was indeed 100% accurate, the inverter's meter would be well within tolerance should it be submitted for testing (after beefing up its security arrangements).
From https://www.gov.uk/guidance/electricity-meter-accuracy-and-disputes
but N.B. these are only the limits in event of a dispute, a new meter needs to be a bit more accurate than that to gain a certificate - but even then 1.5% error is acceptable (follow the link within the quote for full details).the prescribed statutory limits (currently +2.5% and -3.5% for UK nationally approved meters)NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50 -
The piece of kit installed in a TGM which is used for measuring represents a very small proportion of the price of a an officially approved meter; it really wouldn't surprise me if that too cost but a few pence."the piece of kit in the inverter used to measure generation costs about 10 pence compared to the Gen meter
price (£20.00 ish)
The price of an approved meter also includes a tamper proof cabinet and a lot of admin costs for the testing procedures.NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50 -
1.24 O's for me today. Enough for a free tank of hot water while i was out this afternoon. 3.24 kw into Hot water.4kWp, South facing, 16 x phono solar panels, Solis inverter, Lincolnshire.0

Made a full "O" today:D
Some Sun this afternoon = 1.025 O's here:j16 Sanyo Hit 250s.4kWp SMA 3.8kWp inverter. SW roof. 28° pitch. Minimal shade. Nov 2011 install. Hybrid car. Ripple Kirk Hill. N.E Lincs Coast.0 -
My SMA inverters are running slightly ahead of the generation meter. The 4000TL inverter has settled in at just over 1% ahead; the 1600TL, which was installed 9 months later has settled in at about 0.65% ahead.
But the only one that matters is the TGM...
My SMA's both under read, one by 1% and one by about 3%. My SolarEdge over reads by 1%. All figures compared to what the TGM's are doing.
But I'm happy with what my TGM's say ...... 17,437kWh.
Not so happy with Nov gen and prediction so far. Utter massacre. Now predicting 70% if the rest of the month is average (worst month on record was 84%). That would be about the same as Dec's target!
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
