Hi Everyone
I am having solar installed in a fortnight. I do not have any previous experience so am a "solar numpty"
Can someone explain what O's means, is calculated? And what is a "Hawaii"?
Thanks for your time.4 -
Welcome to the board and the solar community.
The O system is a way of comparing output of PV systems on a levelized basis. Because people have differing numbers of panels of differing capacities just stating that you have produced 20kWh in a day would be a good resu8lt for a system with 3kW of panels but could probably be achievable on a gloomy day for somebody with say 10kW of panels.
So the O is calculated by dividing your total output for the day by the nominal capacity of the panels. So in my case if I produced 17kWh, with my 4.25kW array, that would be 4 Os.
The names are just a bit of fun. 5 Os = Hawaii 5-0 (you may have to be of a certain age to get that one) and so on.3 -

Thanks for the explanation Netexporter. That makes sense to be able to make fair comparisons. And yes I am old enough to get the Hawaii joke. Any other names used on here?3
