Phone Companies Offering To Reclaim Charges

I am being harrassed by phone calls which tell me to ring an 0871 number for an "urgent message as someone had been trying to ring me". At the moment due to illness, I am in the house 24/7 and have not missed any calls.
I did this and was told that I was being put through to a "live operator" who would give me my message. Rather unsurprisingly after a few minutes ringing tone I was told that my message would be retrieved. It turned out to be a company offering to retrieve any bank charges for me. They offered me a number to ring (another 0871 number) to speak to a live operator.
I telephoned this number to ask how they had got my number after I was on the TPS list for not receiving such calls. A rather rude young lady refused to give me her company name and just kept saying she would take my number and wouldn't be disturbed again. I asked for an email address but was told that they only dealt with complaints via snail mail because "any Tom !!!!!! an Harry can write in via email". Eventually after threatening her with the authorities (I didn't actually know who to refer this) she told me my number would be removed immediately.
Since then I have received 9 messages from the same company (who have a variety of names - but advertise themselves on line as MTS.
These companies should be stopped harrassing people - what else can I do. I tried BT and the TPS, but they didn't seem too bothered about trying to get information about stopping these companies.

I would check your phone bill when it comes in, i would assume that these companies that have called you and you have called back would charge you rediculous call charges, i agree these scammers need to be stopped. There is no need to go to outside companies to reclaim bank charges when there are enough people on this web site that have knowledge and are friendly enough to help us nobody's reclaim unfair charges. Hope your calls stop soon xx:T This site is great! Thanks to Martin Lewis & everyone who participates and helps so many people! Without you all, where would we be ??:T
:A The days are long, but the years are short! Cherish every moment, you blink that moment is gone forever  :A0 -
This morning, i received a postcard with "sorry you were out, we are trying to contact you. I will call again between 5.30pm and 8pm. If inconvenient please call 0845 blah blah blah.
I am on maternity leave at moment and am at home most of the time and always answer the phone if in. I telephoned this number this morning and got a similiar thing, we are transferring you to a live operator. When the lady answered she just stated her name and asked for a reference number. I told her i didnt have one, she asked for postcode, i gave it to her and she started spouting about would i like to claim unfair bank charges. Not to be to rude i bascially told her to F off, not in those words of course. I aksed where she got our number etc from and she would not reply. I have reported them to TPS as i am also registered.
Just be warned about these scams, it is costing you to phone 0845 etc. If they really wanted to help they would give you a freephone number atleast.
