HI everyone, Hope you don't all think I'm going paranoid, but I'd rather ask the question than regretting my action. I have an option to register my new garmin satnav with my name and address and for doing this, I'd get a free map update. What I'd like to know is this - can garmin collect and use personal data from my satnav.

Tom Tom ask you so look for any boxes which ask for that as part of the update process. Choose no if you wish.0

Tom Tom did do this
TomTom user data sold to Dutch police, used to determine ideal locations for speed traps
TomTom has issued a statement, which we have embedded after the break. To be totally clear all this data is being collected anonymously and the police have no idea exactly who is speeding, just that speeding has taken place.

It would appear that I have to register my satnav in order to get the latest maps/safety cameras database. I will have to select the 'no' option regarding the collection of data and trust them on the privacy statement.0
