No reply = Not accepted?

Hi all!

I applied online for a Barclays Initial credit card (my first credit card). I then received a letter saying Barclays needed some more information in the forms of proving my ID.

So I sent these photocopies off nearly 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything since. Am I expecting things to happen too quickly or is this a sign of not being accepted?

Thanks!

  • have you contacted them to make sure they received what you sent,as 3 weeks does seem a long time
  • I would think that three weeks is sufficient time to process the information that you provided. Have you called Barclays to ask if they have anymore information for you?

There have been a number of posts on the forum recently where Barclays had initially accepted credit card applications then shortly afterwards cancelled the credit agreement for no apparent reason. I think in some cases people had even received PIN numbers and cards before receiving the cancellation letter.

I'm thinking that Barclays may have changed their lending criteria recently which is why all these problems seem to be arising.

Have you rung them and asked?

    Thanks for your replies!

Sorry I should have mentioned that really! Yes I have rung twice and both occasions the person I spoke to seemed confused as to why I was calling! When I eventually get to the right person I have been told twice that they are unable to check application statuses due to a technical problem and suggest I call back the next day.

If I was declined all of a sudden would I receive some sort of confirmation of this in a letter?

    Thanks!
  • I've just tried calling them again on their Applications and New Customers phone number on 0800 731 0200 and once again I was told

'We are suffering from technical difficulties, please call back in one hour...'

In which one hours time will be after 8pm when that number is closed.

So this is the third time they have said this which is making me think something might be up with this number or service?
