Two questions about upgrading my pc monitor.

I would like to upgrade my monitor to a 27 inch one. I have 3 contenders :

LG DM2780D 27 inch Cinema 3D TV Monitor http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00606JKRC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Samsung P2770HD 27 inch Widescreen Ecofit Monitor with Digital TV Tuner http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002PWDEX6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Samsung T27A300 27 inch Widescreen LED Monitor with Digital TV Tuner http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005FYN0BW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Which one would be the best? The LG is there as it's the only one in my price range that has 3D capabilities, though it seems that they have the habit to send the wrong glasses with it.

Is the graphics card you have on your PC important to use those monitors? My graphic card is quite old (Nvidia GE Force 7600GT)and I am using XP.
Will there be a problem using those monitors with my graphics card?

    Do you need 3D?

Your current GFX should be able to handle 1920 x 1080 with a DVI cable.

Yes the graphics card is important. You're going to need a damned quick one to take advantage of the 3D for gaming which means at least another £150 for a card and if the PSU isn't high enough rated to run the card, a new one of those too.

    Do you really need 3D?

No, not really. It seemed a good idea to have a 3D monitor as an "upgrade", and it would have been my first brush with 3D. (and the monitor seems to have had a big reduction on price).I would have thought the 3D picture would be coming more from the television side of the monitor, more than the graphics card of the PC (as you noticed, I know nothing about 3D technology).:)
Will my graphics card cope with one of the two others then?

Your GFX can handle the resolution on all those monitors by using a DVI cable.

Another thing, I understand that for computer gaming my card is not up to scratch to play games in 3D, but on the occasions where I will be using the monitor as a television with a DVD player, or a ps3, won't the 3D work properly? I think you can use the monitor as a television only if you want (well, that's what I understand about the LG monitor).
On the other hand, I always had Samsung monitors, and am a bit nervous about buying an LG, and, except for the amazon reviews, I couldn't find many reviews on other websites.

The TV should be able to 'create' a 3D picture from other sources. You can use it as a TV or a monitor.

LG is the second biggest conglomerate in Korea. Wouldn't worry about being nervous.
  • LG are very good, Samsung are the best but you pay for it.

I usually go for Samsung as I know they are top notch, that's why I am in a bit of a dilemma here. The idea to have a try at 3D was tempting, as it is the next thing, even if it's only possible when I use the monitor as a TV, and especially with the price discount the LG monitor is at now, but I feel that Samsung is a safer option.
    I don't know what to do ....:o:undecided
