I want one of those water flossing jobs but no idea which one.
I'm not looking for cheap, I'm looking for effective.
Any suggestions please?

Don't bother with the Waterpik. Just look at the reviews on Amazon:(. Both my friend and I bought them at the same time (from Lloyds, not Amazon), and both packed up around 9 months later. They just stopped holding a charge. We got a refund, no probs, well done Lloyds:beer: and bought the Panasonic (can't remember model number, but it was around £70. Absolutely brilliant - does a very good job and is still working 100% 18 months later. Definitely worth the money.
Edit - Just found the model : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Dentacare-EW1211-Rechargeable-Irrigator/dp/B0009OGHQ8/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1331845903&sr=8-7:beer: My glass is half full :beer:0 -
£70 = about 23 pkts of Tepe brushes.
Tepe brushes and a bit of time spent using them will be far better for your oral health than a gadget. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

I have those too.
I'm prone to getting what I believe is called tonsil stones. Many people have cited a water pik as being helpful in dislodging them.
I figured it was worth a go.Herman - MP for all!0 -

So a waterpik is probably not worth buying then. Since I brush, floss and tepee already?0 -
If you do all the above effectively you don't need one.0

Oh wow, I know I've lived a sheltered life but I've never heard of water flossers OR tepe brushes!
My son is prone to tonsil stones too - and the doctor was very unhelpful.
I'm out shopping today so something to look out for in Boots.0 -

Mine too.
I had tonsilitis every other month when I was a kid, I have no idea why my tonsils were never taken out back then.
I didn't know what tonsil stones were when I went to the Doctor initially but he knew what I was talking about and pretty much dismissed it as a slight annoyance.
I've got the old familiar 'something stuck in your throat' feeling right now and it's been there for days. I pressed on my tonsils with a cotton bud but only gave myself earache on that side.I really want to try blasting with a water cannon. OK slight exaggeration but you get the idea.

You'd have to be pretty accurate with a Water Pik to be effective. Might be better if someone did it for you.
It's not a noted use for one, and although I can see where you're coming from, it's not really something I'd like to encourage people to do.
Ocasionally, if I have patients in with these plaques obvious in their tonsils, I suck them out with a small tube on my aspirator! I first did that for Mrs T.S. who also went through a phase of getting them (and still does occasionally).
They're not really 'stones' but plaques of what seems to be very thick pus! They have the consistancy of the lumps in cottage cheese, and make a very satisfying 'Thunk' sound as they disappear down the aspirator! How to find a dentist.
