Yes, I think I would like to try Linux or Ubuntu.
The laptop will be blank.
Do I really need to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB? Do I just buy another 1GB stick or change over to 2? Never opened the inside of a laptop before. I just assumed that if it was good enough our the people in the office, it would be fine for me as well.0 -
you dont need 2GB for XP or linux, so save a couple of quid towards your charger

agreed with GunJack no need to upgrade the RAM if you are looking at putting Linux on it even the 'heavy' full fat Ubuntu says it only needs 512mb of ram to run, this being said i currently prefer Linux Mint, and the LXDE version and Lubuntu (lxde version of ubuntu) used to fly on my old low spec systemDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
I was going to post on your other thread, to echo others, I think that the current Ubuntu would possibly struggle on that spec laptop.
I'd second Lubuntu, just put it on a 1.2GHz Celeron with 512MB ram, it's fine for light use.
p.s Anybody remember the Iridium Starbook 510, a rebadged Clevo 2200,
.
It's got to be the worse laptop ever made, but the thing is in perfect working condition, except the fans are unbelievably noisy, making it virtually unusable.Move along, nothing to see.0
