Is this a good laptop??

Hi

I'm in desperate need to update my Dell Inspiron which has keys missing and is very slow!!

I received a Costco booklet today with these two offers

http://www.johnlewis.com/231395865/Product.aspx

at £599 inc VAT

and this one

http://www.johnlewis.com/231497011/Product.aspx?source=63258

at £359 inc VAT

I would like to get one from Costco as they have such a good warranty but am open to suggestions. I'm a bit clueless when it comes to technology!! The laptop is for personal use at home and to watch movies/tv programs and upload pics and videos.

I don't want to spend anymore than £600.

Thanks in advance
P

Dells usually come with a factory restore partition, which means, after you've backed up, you could have it running like new in 10 minutes.

A £300-350 laptop would meet your requirements.

The Toshiba one is nice, and just as powerful as the other one.
my computer has a ati radeon graphics card but is a lower one than that of the toshibas 6320.

Toshiba also have their own recovery options, like dells, a hidden partition on the drive with a factory image so if you do get infected or screw it up, you have the ability to do a recovery, infact 3 way recovery. 1 recovery in place, leaves your files and data alone just fixes anything like the registry, like a system restore.
    2. recovery like the above, but somewhere in between of this and a factory restore.
    3. factory restore which means you lose any data you put on it + programs, best to move your data first.

i know someone who has a new toshiba like the one in your post, its nice.

Thank you for your responses. I think the Toshiba would be better for me and its a lot cheaper!
I will try to run the recovery on my Dell as I want to keep it as a back up laptop

Yep the Toshiba is basically the same just slightly slower processor, which for what you sound like you'll be doing, you don't have anything to worry about! And you'll save a few hundred quid so win win.

Sony Vaio's are just expensive, you pay for the brand name, bit like Sony tv's.

rothchick press the F10 key whilst the laptop is starting up to get to the recovery process on the DELL, before doing the factory reinstall make sure to copy all your data of it first. music, pictures, docs that you may need, as the factory restall will wipe this off.
