Lidl's Cimarosa Shiraz Cabernet at £3.99 a bottle is pretty brilliant - so double up on price and have a decent bottle of red for the trouble. I rate it. x3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Very impressed with the view you put forward thank you for posting it. I shall have to work this out for me and OH
I was impressed too, struggled to find a point of reference but remembered that when I was 18 and at college (1994), beer/cider was £1 a pint in loads of places. In the holidays I worked in my Mums (booze!) factory and earned their minimum wage, my take home pay was £140 a week so yes, 140 pints as previous poster. Guess it is all about statistics and averages and where you live.
To stay on topic, £2 is never going to get you a decent bottle of wine but if you hunt around it is possible to find a reasonable one in the £4 range, plus it's a matter of personal taste. I like heavy, full bodied reds and decent ones sub £6 are hard to find but if you like light and fruity ones, it's easy to find loads. The Co-op do a £2.99 spanish white sauvignon blanc which is very quaffable as a spritzer of a summer evening.0
