How can Lidl sell wine this bad??

Okay perhaps I deserve it for paying £2 for a bottle of wine but I trusted Lidl not to sell absolute rubbish, and thought I'd give it a go in case it was really nice and then I could stock up on lots of bottles at £2.
But it's really bad. It's a British wine called Copper Beech and it barely resembles wine. More a bottle of water that someone left a couple of grapes in for a week.
Not only am I annoyed at myself for not just buying a decent bottle but I'm tempted to take it back and ask for a refund just to make a point.
Either way, if you see 'Copper Beech' wine in Lidl - stay away!!!

Did you read my post?!
I kind of was expecting it but also put my faith in Lidl that it had to be better than I thought it was.
Plus being English, rather than imported from South America or Australia I thought I might be able to get a lot more for a lot less.
I was wrong.0 -
Lidl or not £2 a bottle should have tipped you off that this was going to be pretty awful.
On a related note, avoid their own vodka, it's hairspray in a bottle. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Unfortunately almost all low-alcohol wines taste awful. There are some good English wines (Three Choirs in particular) but they tend to be around the £5 mark.
For decent cheap wine go to France, I'm drinking a really lovely red which was 75p a bottle.0 -

Well I guess I've learnt haven't I. Thought I'd at least have a rant and try to warn others who might think it can't be *that* bad.
Which vodka did you try? There were two last time I bought some, I had the more expensive one and thought it was quite good.0 -

Oh, I didn't think the low alcohol part had anything to do with it. I'll watch out for that in future.
And yes, the fact that you can go to other European countries and get good local wine dirt cheap made me think perhaps you can do that here. However I suppose the government wouldn't allow it even if it was possible...0 -

Yup, you were wrong! £2 is cheap, and 'wine' at that price will be cheap. So far so as expected.
Your problem seems to be that it was 'English' and you trusted it because of that. But it wasn't 'English' wine - it was 'British' wine.
British Wine is a phrase used solely for cheap weak wines made from imported concentrate - nearly every supermarket sells them if you look hard enough. Usually a bit too sweet and a bit too weak (8% is normal). Never, ever, buy 'British' Wine if you like wine.
But don't confuse it with English Wine - that's a totally different, rather classy (usually) product, made from grapes grown in English vineyards. And often more expensive than French or German equivalents.
Cheap ' British' - avoid. Pricey 'English' - worth trying.
