    Yes, loads.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Gas and air, very common, probably more unusual not to have it I would have thought

Any further information to add on that Toothsmith or can you help point our OP in the right direction towards dental practices in their area? ;)

A little more info would be helpful.

Which bit of N.I.? If you have sedation, travelling back home will be an issue, so best not to go too far unless you have good support.
    Private or NHS?
Would OP be willing to pay Privately for sedation if treatment was NHS?
Would OP consider other forms of sedation?
Does OP need sedating just to get through the surgery front door, or can they manage a check up without?

If we had a bit more information, it would be easier to give a more useful answer.

I have to remind the dentist that if he does not knock me out, I will end up knocking him out. I am terrified of dentists and whenever they go to prod around, my instinctive reflexes inevitably kick in.

Dentists haven't been allowed to 'knock people out' in ordinary general practice for nearly 15 years now.

  • Dentist aren't as bad as you initially think!! I have been getting sedation for around 10 years. I was petrified of the dentist for fillings. When I was pregnant last year I needed a filling and was unable to get sedated :(. MP3 in my ear and thoughts of anything other than what was happening.... I hung in there and got the filling done no probs. I was so proud as was the dentist. Its worth trying to get a dentist that understands how you feel about getting work done. Once you find them you'll never look back.

I can travel but my nearest would be Craigavon area .I have a bad gagging so anything beyond the front teeth is a problem .
Now here is the problem ,my dentist refers me to Brownlow health centre and they dont have a mask to fit an adult so they refer me to Dungannon hospital and they knock me out . So there has to be an easier way.
