Can you also explain what the transaction was that took you o/d?0 -
Tesco's don't seem to check any balances in customers account below £30 - it depends on a retailers ceiling limits
I'd like him know that at the moment he needs to get in the habit of checking his balance at a cash point and it may be an idea for him to take cash out to buy things0 -
9 years ago when i was about 16 I had a visa electron from barclays. I remember a couple of times I used to go and buy something in a shop like a new pair of trainers with it then run to the cashpoint and take the cash out. It always used to let you.0

If I use my card in Tesco the available balance adjusts straight away, even for amounts like £1.
This doesn't happen with some other retailers though, giving the opportunity to withdraw cash and go overdrawn.0 -
I have seen many-a-charge on someones account due to Tesco transactions below £30
When I used to work at Debenhams a good few years ago I was told the reason they did not take Visa Electron was because they did not have the facility to check the customers bank balance - it was a good while ago, and I don;t know if it was really that case, but was told that0 -
The new 2 in 1 cards that are issued nowadays are to stop this kind of thing.
In theory if a terminal cannot check whether there is sufficent cleared funds to pay for a transaction it should automatically decline it.
I don't know though whether some shops have some sort of overide to force the transaction through if it is under a certain amount.0 -
Well, he had a letter from the bank. He is £30+ overdrawn on the account he can't go overdrawn on!!! They have said if he doesn't pay it in 28 days they will pass his details to Experian etc.
He is not worried, just says 'Oh well, so what'. He has told me he has no intention of paying the money back, will not get a job and as long as he has the card he will use it. I am tempted to write to the bank with this information. There's every possibility they will take no notice but at least I will have done my best. Maybe someone at the bank will look and think maybe they should cancel the card but then that takes common sense and we know they don't have any.I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.:eek:0 -
Damn, Lloyds ARE as stupid as I thought.
So what if they pass his details to Experian? It's illegal for Lloyds to give him credit!0
