Car mats, rubber or velour?
Options
Hi
Got myself a car and need some mats to keep it clean, but which are best?
I have children- so will have to try and keep mucky foot print to a min.
Thanks
Also is it worth spending alot?
Seen some in supermarket from £5.00

I think with children or animals rubber will be better in the long run. Especially if you buy the manufacturers ones (too expensive) or some of the copies. You might find some good ones on Ebay I bought a set for our V40 Volvo made in Latvia and they were very good. Some however are a bit cheap and nasty so check what other buyers have had to say.0

how sad am I? I have both, although it is an expensive car. I had the velour mats from the manufacturer put in and then I brought some very cheap thin rubber mats from the £1 shop to protect the velour mats and to take the brunt of the mud and grime. In my defence It was a brand new car and I generally only keep them for a year or so, so I do like to minimise any wear and tear.0

Whatever you choose for practical reasons, ensure you get tailored mats which fit your car properly, ideally those that can be pegged into the floor fabric. You need, for safety in the driver footwell, to prevent any chance of slippage.
The number of cars I've seen with ill fitting cheap unfitted mats which have rucked and slipped up around the footwell is unbelievable and incredibly dangerous, so do choose wisely for your car.
The cheaper fabric mats are chalk-filled...these tend to have hard, almost plasticised, backs and are produced for about £5 a set overseas and sold at about £20-25 a set over here, but they crack and split within months.
Like everything, you get what you pay for. A top quality set of tailored mats that will last and not become mis-shaped will cost, you depending on your car model, around £45-90, but you'll not need to replace them as often as a cheaper set.“Official Company Representative

There are lots of good, cheapish tailored mats for your car on eBay. Just do a search for the model of your car and mats and you should get lots of options for £20 - £25.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350

I recentlty visited a local wilkinsons store and purchased some half rubber / half fabric mats for a tenner and they don't move around the car and the muck seems to be sticking in the rubber and so far have been easy to clean.0

Get the rubber ones. You can wash them with a hose and hang them out to dry. Its not so easy with the fabric ones.If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0
