wireless adapter

Yes I have - the BT Home Hub 3 is an N-rated router. Why suggest a G-rated adapter?
What is their actual download speed though? e.g. 6mbps
802.11n is overrated and gives very little benefit to most users. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

That's the irrelevancy.
You can have a 1000meg service, but using an inferior wireless adapter, you'll never get to maximise the speed provided.802.11n is overrated and gives very little benefit to most users.
Not true.
g-rated is capped at 54Mbit/s
n-rated can go as far as 300Mbit/s, almost six-times the data rate per stream.
If you believe that is "little benefit", then no problem. It is your opinion after all. Why have a n-rated router and not use it to its capability?0 -

You are obviously posing about a subject that you don't understand but you are free to your opinion.
If the OP only has a download speed of say 6mbps and they have no other devices connected to their home network, what use is 300mbps to them?
Real world testing of 802.11n throughput is nowhere near to 300mbs - less than 100mbps in fact! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

You assume the OP has a 6Mbps connection. I have not assumed anything.
An N device operating on 5GHz will beat a G-rated, 2.4GHz, 54Mpbs for a reliable, high-throughput connection. Fact.0 -

I have not assumed what the OP's actual speed is, I asked if you had asked this question but as I said, you are obviously out of your depth on this subject because the BT Home Hub 3 does not support 5Ghz only 2.4Ghz, not does it support data throughput of 300mbps!
The OP requested a suitable replacement for their BT Voyager 1055 WiFi adaptor and an equivalent was given. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Once again, you have assumed. When did I say the BT HH3 was a 5Ghz? I said "An N device.....".
It might not have occured to you that the OP may use the laptop to go somewhere else other than home, that may have an N-rated signal, so more options for the OP to connect to.
My point is that the BT HH3 is N-rated and as a result the Op should get a N-rated adapter. Period.0 -

You have simply proved that you know nothing about this topic! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

You seem to have assumed that a Dell C521 is a laptop - wrong again!Do a test. Get a G-rated dongle vs a N-rated dongle on a N-rated router. Which would perform better?
This is a money saving site, the OP does not need an 802.11n adaptor.
Why don't you limit yourself to responding to threads where you have enough knowledge to make a useful contribution! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
