wiring ceiling light HELP!!!
got a new ceiling light and it only has 1 live and 1 neutral connection point plus earth connection point.
from the ceiling I have two cables coming through one will be power and one switch, however there is no indication as to which is the switch cable.
Both cables contain three wires red, black and yellow/green,
How do I find out which is the switch cable and then how will I wire this to the light fitting.
Thanks

Be careful about doing anything like this based on suggestions from strangers on an internet forum!
(Plus the question's on the wrong board, should be in DIY.)
But I would have thought you put both live wires to live, both neutral wires to neutral and both earth wires to earth?
ETA: But it sounds like this is wrong. Hopefully you followed my first suggestion (being careful about what people post) and not my second (how to do it, incorrectly)!0 -

Exactly!
OP should ignore those who think that they know how it should be wired.got a new ceiling light and it only has 1 live and 1 neutral connection point plus earth connection point.

If you don't understand this here, then get someone in who does. If you only have two cables then it must be the last light on the circuit so no "To Next" cable. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Err... no. I think espresso knew that was wrong but tried a hint of irony.
For the avoidance of doubt that will probably blow the fuse as it will create a short circuit through the light switch. *Possibly* the light switch contacts will weld.
*Probably* one of the blacks is a switched live and should be sleeved red.
The OP should seek competent help.0 -

Identify the switch cable using a multimeter. But only if you know what you are doing, and with the circuit isolated. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

You need to be proficient in the use of a multimeter and have some knowledge of basic electrical safety and circuitry. Dont put all the reds/blue/yellows together !Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
