Electoral address wrong / Tesco CC application

in Credit cards
Hi!
Was hoping to get some advice from you kind folk who might have experience with this sort of thing. Just been knocked back by Tesco Credit, received an online 'no' and a follow up letter in the post today. Really gutted as I ran through the ten check boxes to see how your score *should* be, and it was looking good.
I registered to vote back in November and was added to the Electoral Register in December. Experian gave me the free credit check in January which came back as 'low', mainly because I was not registered to vote. I (stupidly) thought that as I had a letter back from the Electoral office confirming I was on it, it would just take a while to update and this month (March), applied for a credit card, thinking it should be up to date by now.
Tesco wrote back saying it was rejected following a check against Experian. It didn't say exactly why, but when I called the Electoral office they had my address as 10(1) instead of 10A. They changed it there and then on the phone and are sending a confirmation letter out which they suggest I photocopy and email to the three big ones, but I wanted to ask you if you had any experience of something similar:
* Is that more than likely why I was rejected?
* Now that I've applied and been rejected, will that negatively affect my score?
* How long should I wait after the update (assuming it was that) before trying again?
* Is it possible that I'd be rejected now after my file has been updated where I might have been accepted had my file been correct because I've recently applied for credit?
I earn about £16000, no credit history (good or bad) but have two mobile contracts, a DD with Virgin Media years old and the same bank account since the late nineties. No debts outstanding, though I know no history of borrowing can be a bad thing.
I'd be grateful for any help if you have a moment to reply. Thanks!
Nathan

* Is that more than likely why I was rejected? Likely to have been a major issue, and may well have resulted in a decline. But obviously we cannot say whether you might have been rejected for other reasons as well even if this wasn't the problem. Especially with your lack of credit history.
* Now that I've applied and been rejected, will that negatively affect my score? A rejection does not appear on your file. All that appears in a credit application search. This does decrease your 'score' by a few points - but most on here will tell you to pay little attention to your score.
In terms of your ability to get credit (which is more important than the score), lots of applications close together mean you are much more likely to be declined in the short term. One or 2 applications shouldn't be a big issue.
* How long should I wait after the update (assuming it was that) before trying again?
If you are now showing as on the electoral roll you could try another application now. The key thing is not to try several more applications.
* Is it possible that I'd be rejected now after my file has been updated where I might have been accepted had my file been correct because I've recently applied for credit?
Possible in theory, impossible to know for certain or to prove.
Given your long time with your bank, but lack of credit history it might be worth trying to apply for a credit card with them.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

i'd agree with this, natwest have given me an adequate credit limit while i'm still stuck with a low capital one credit limit. Natwest are my bank and although i've only been with them 10 months they know how much money is deposited in my account each month and have given my first prime credit card.0 -
Contact Tesco and appeal the decision.
Send them a copy of the electoral roll confirmation too, along with other documents such as credit card statements, payslips etc.0
