Wenders commissioned artists such as U2, R.E.M, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, Depeche Mode and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds to contribute the kind of songs that they would conceivably be producing eight years hence. The result was a trail blazing cocktail of the decade’s most innovative and visionary talents; it became the perfect aural counterpoint to the searing visual impact the film possesses.
