Redundancy Payment Query

My husband is due to be made redundant. Originally his end date was the 23rd December but they have since been extending this on a week by week basis. His new date is now 30th March 2012.
His company have now advised that they would not be paying the redundancy pay-out and that this would come from Price Waterhouse Cooper who they are consulting with on a weekly basis to avoid bankrupcy. In addition the redundancy payment has to be applied for and make take up to three months to come through.
My understand was always that a redundancy payment was made with your last wages.
Is this right?

If the company goes into liquidation, it comes from a government fund, not the company, and there is an application process and a delay in payment. That may be what is happening here.Debt free 4th April 2007.
