Initially for just this year, but maybe for pst 7 years.

due to 2 meters and incorrect meter exchange BG have had to cancel all old bills and re-bill. I still think the bill is a little too high but need the info to verify it.

There are so many rates displayed the bill is impossible to follow.

Please has anyone got BG Seeboard area Elec rates for this year.
I'd like to do a ballpark estimate on amount of units used since last bill/meter change
There is no way I can easily check the whole bill as it reads like this.

first 755 at 9.700 pence per kWh £73.24 next 509 at 10.130 pence per kWh £51.56

next 315 at 10.531 pence per kWh £33.17 next 421 at 9.940 pence per kWh £41.85 next 405 at 9.700 pence per kWh £39.29
next 0 at 10.531 pence per kWh £0.00

BG Standard tariff for the Seeboard area from 04 Sept 2006 are 17.040/10.821p for tier1/2 - these prices include VAT @5%. and for all methods of payment.

You pay tier1 for the first 225 units per quarter.(pro-rata for other periods)

I assume the prices you have given above are less VAT as they normally add this at the bottom of the bill.

    Click Energy was 10.747/8.553p

For the period 01 March 2006 to 04 Sept 2006 the standard tariff prices were 14.919/9.410p for Direct Debit and 16.855/9.410 for quarterly again all including VAT

    The 16.229p + VAT = 17.04p and 10.306p +VAT= 10.821p which indicates you were/are on BG standard tariff from 4 Sept 06 to 23 Feb 07

    The 16.052p +VAT = 16.855p and 8.962p + VAT = 9.41p so this indicates you were on BG Standard tariff from 24 June 06 to 04 Sep 06.

Tier 1 @225 per quarter(pro rata) for period 4/9/06 to 23/2/07 is the 427 units they have charged you at 16.229(before VAT)

However if your bill runs from 24/6/06, as you state, it doesn't make any sense. I think it must run from before those dates and another tariff.

I have no idea how you get all the other prices including 5.55p/kWh etc - they haven't been that low on any tariff for many years, and are far too high for economy 7.

Something is very wrong as for the period 24/6/06 to 23/2/07 you should only have 4 rates given; the pre and post 4/9/06 price rise rates for Tier1/2.

Thanks very much for this Cardew. I had started to work it out by trying to back track through pairs of the rates on the bill. The 10.306 threw me a bit as it does not seem to have same % increase as the tier 1 rate.

Actually I think the rates go back to 2000. They have incorrectly attributed a meter change to the wrong meter. In order to 'correct' this they have gone back prior to the previous meters change in 2004. Hence it is showing all those rates. They are rebilling it all and then appyling the credits but I still think the bill is too high. But looking at his bill they are applying a differerent number of units to each rate than they did when it was billed originally.

Property has 2 meters so it also seems we pay tier1 rate on each which does not seem fair.

It is pretty impossible for me to calculate as a) the online bill differs in format to paper bill ( not received yet) b) the bills don't show which dates and meters they have applied each rate to.

So step 1 I think is to see if the bill £230(which includes £30 compensation) is reasonable for 1723 units used since last bill we paid 1st May.

When calculating a price change reading is it fair for me to take two actual readings and divide by number of days to get average daily usage. i.e to they make winter adjustments for elec ?

Firstly the 2 meters is probably because at some time in the past the property was on an Economy 7 tariff. So they should just aggregate the 2 readings and treat it as one meter. I have exactly the same arrangement. e.g. Meter 1 reads 1,000kWh and Meter 2 reads 200kWh so I am billed for 1,200kWh. If that bill was for exactly a quarter I would pay 225 at tier1 rates and 975 at tier2 rates.

Of course if you have 2 seperate supplies - i.e. one to an annex - then you will correctly be billed separately.

They do make winter adjustments of consumption for estimates. So if your bill was for a period, say, 1 July to 31 Dec with a price rise half way through(1 Oct) they would obviously estimate you used more in the latter period. It is a complicated algorithm they use, so not something we could easily work out. There is much anecdotal evidence that they ‘skew’ the figures in their favour; although one assumes the Regulator would be down on them like a ton of bricks if that happened.

The 2 meters are historic. The first meter supplies most of the house and I think the 2nd meter supplies front room(which used to be a shop) and the garage. Neither front room or garage have been used as business premises for 30 years so all should be charged at one rate. So once this is sorted I am going to change to Ebico to get one rate for all units.

If I don't know their algorithm how am I going to work out that the bill is reasonable.

They have only read meters twice in 2.5 years (although I have more readings) so don't even know how they work out reasonable reading. Prior to that it was 4 years worth of bills.

If both meters are on the same account, I think you have a very good case for the readings to be aggregated and treated as one. Charging for 900 units at a higher tier1 rate is £50+ pa.

I have a separate gas/electricity supply to an annex, but they(unfortunately) are on separate accounts.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the algorithm. The important thing is to get the number of units(kWh) correct and agreed. The apportioning of pre and post rise units will have a relatively small effect on the overall costs. That will have all been worked out by the computer and whilst BG can be correctly accused of being incompetent at times, I have seen no evidence of them being dishonest.

    Thanks Cardew

I agree with what you say, unfortunately I don't think their computers will be able to cope with combining the units as they have had enough trouble with 2meters on the account. If they say they can't do it I might see if they will knock more of the bill. If they still don't agree then I think I will take it back to Energywatch, as it does seem unfair to be paying higher rate on the second meter. They have already given £30 comp for the hassle - (loads of chasing by me since July, no call back from them , 2 or 3 £700+ bills and reminders etc).

I also agree with you about price change reading estimates. Mine have been fairly accurate. But with Mum's account( this one I'm trying to sort) I have a little less faith. e.g they estimated 2431 on 1st May meter removed 23rd June and reading was 2003. Although I suppose overestimating works in my favour when price increases.

I'll wait a couple days until I get paper bill forwarded to me and then I will try calling them.

interesting I have just re-done the bill (just over a years worth) as best I can using the readings I have ( giving av daily usage) , and using 2.5 units a day to work out the pro rata.
I know it is not exact but when I do it with both meters using 2 meters I get a final amount to pay of approx £225 and when I combine KWH I get approx to pay £186. They are asking for £230
Also they still have not added winter benefit on which will be another £30 to come off.

That is just for one years usage. So will also be due more for previous years.
