Dramatic increase in train fares in June?

I have been looking at travelling from Peterborough to Preston in June and see that the cheapest fare I used to get at £13 has disappeared and it will now cost £72.:mad:

Am I missing something?:(

Have you been trying a variety of travel times to see what difference that makes? And which site have you been using to get your prices?

Cheap tickets for journeys up to 7th June came out today at about 10:00, if you are travelling after 7th June, then you need to look again next week.

I would guess you are trying to book too early - tickets for most of June haven't been released yet. £13 fares are there up to the 6th.

Ah, I see, they have now come out and yes (phew) the cheap prices are still there:T.

I used trainline, national rail and redspotted hanky and they were all coming in with the pricey tickets, I was 'slightly worried'

All the different sites sell tickets from the same overall pool - they don't have individual allocations.

The only differences are that some train companies sell the cheaper "Advance" tickets (travel on specific trains) at a bit of a discount on their own websites if the journey is on their route (e.g. East Coast offers 10% off - but only for journeys on East Coast), and that some of the sites add booking fees and credit card fees on top (e.g. The Trainline) when others don't.

The 'pricey' tickets are Off Peak and Anytime tickets and can be bought anything from 1 year in advance right up to departure.

Advance tickets are generally released approximately 12 weeks in advance, at the same time that reservations open and are non-reundable and any changes to travel plans incurs a £10 admin fee plus any extra as appropriate.
